The film doesn't actually tackle "Knowing Me Knowing You"; my companion insisted on staying the cinema right until the end, just in case they sang it over the credits, but no luck. I like Muriel's Wedding, but I haven't seen it for years, so I don't remember much about the specific uses of Abba; and Youtube is less forthcoming that I'd have hoped. But I seem to remember that Abba's songs actually play some dramatic role in the film, which would certainly put it above Mamma Mia. “Restraint” and “poignant” are both excellent words; I wish I’d used them in the post. How does it compare to Murial's Wedding - surely an Abba movie that does without the karaoke factor and that takes the kitsch emotion of the songs and runs with it?
