And yet, echeneida, your first post goes to the heart of why she is indeed a threat to the ruling powers, even without any substantive threat of violence from her. She’s more dangerous in the context of these ideas, because she poses no credible threat to the force that backs up the political order. Making certain kinds of information illegal is better than controlling your thoughts, because it consigns thoughts to the role of the pure idea; governments are not in the business of controlling thoughts, but rather in the business of controlling praxis.

An interesting related case is being reported today:

“Scientists contacted by Nature say that AS-level coursework would be unlikely to help a terrorist.”

If poetry is terror, then the idea that A level chemistry is also terror shouldn’t be so surprising. Maybe if I’d have known that at the time I was taking it, I would have paid more attention.
